HARRY ANDERSON GETS FERRETY FOR HALLOWEEN ISSUE OF MODERN FERRET MAGAZINE

Smithtown, NY - Harry Anderson is at it again. Back in the 1980's the trickster/con-man/actor/magician was eating guinea pigs (and dishing out apologies to Saturday Night Live viewers). Now he's doing the same with ferrets … well, almost. An interview in the September/October issue of Modern Ferret magazine shows that Harry still has an appetite for dark humor (and small animals). The issue, now on sale, features two subtly different collectable cover variations and a ghastly Monty-Pythonesque centerfold with Harry Anderson and his son Dashiell. Of course, no ferrets were harmed in the making of the issue. Harry has worked with ferrets in his magic act.
"A lot of folks saw me on Saturday Night Live and know that I ate a guinea pig as part of my act, but I find that the ferret actually has more dark meat. It's also got that whooping crane musky aftertaste - if you don't over-prepare it. In fact, ferret tartar is something that has been kind of overlooked. You end up picking a little fur out of your teeth, but there's something very gamy," Harry said in the interview.
"People don't expect a pet magazine to be funny or entertaining, but maybe they should. The somewhat shocking and funny interview with Harry Anderson goes right along with Modern Ferret's editorial bent. We've always considered ourselves to be the Rolling Stone of pet magazines," said Eric Shefferman, Modern Ferret's Designer.
"Eric and I had a blast doing the photos and interview with Harry and Dashiell. We might have let things get a little out of hand at the photo shoot but it was fun for all of us, and no one got hurt," said Mary R. Shefferman, editor of Modern Ferret. "Harry is an amazingly creative and funny person."
Harry Anderson is probably best known for his portrayal of Judge Harry Stone on TV's Night Court. He also starred in the sitcom Dave's World and, more recently, played Elwood P. Dowd in a CBS TV remake of the James Stewart classic Harvey.
The Sept/Oct issue of Modern Ferret is on sale now and is available at Borders Books and Music, Barnes & Noble, Petco, and other pet and book outlets and by subscription.
In addition to the macabre, darkly humorous interview, Modern Ferret is filled with the best ferret care information available. Started in 1994 by ferret-owning husband-and-wife team Eric and Mary Shefferman, the magazine offers care tips, training ideas, and fun and games for ferret owners, by ferret owners. Modern Ferret was chosen as one of the 50 most notable launches of 1995 by Samir Husni (Mr. Magazine™) and was honored by min magazine as one of the 12 Best Magazines in the Magazine Industry for 1999.
