NEW YORK CITY WANTS YOUR BUSINESS... AS LONG AS YOU DON'T BRING YOUR GROUP OF FERRETS
According to its ad on page 11 of the May 29 issue of Inc. magazine, the New York City Economic Development Corporation states, "New York City. We Want Your Business." Of course, they don't mean your "business" of ferrets. We thought this was kind of amusing.

(For those who didn't know: The term for a group of ferrets is a "business" of ferrets.)

NYC CITY COUNCIL VOTES "YES" TO INTRO 627-A... JUST BARELY
The NYC City Council voted to pass the bill which would legalize ferrets, but not by enough votes to override a veto by Mayor Giuliani. Mayor Giuliani has expressed anti-ferret sentiments many times and had sent a letter to all the Council members urging them to veto the bill. It is now important for ferret owners to politely work to sway the votes of those who were against ferrets or abstained. NOTE: More than one council member made it clear that their vote against ferrets was based on the attitude and actions of the ferret people. It is vital to be polite and courteous while educating these politicians on the merits of ferrets.

NYC CITY COUNCIL SCHEDULED TO VOTE ON FERRET LEGALIZATION ON MAY 9
Modern Ferret supports the legalization of ferrets in New York City. The New York City Council is scheduled to vote on "Intro 627-A: The Ferret Regulation Bill" on May 9, 2001, at 1 pm at the City Council Chambers at City Hall. IF YOU LIVE IN NYC, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR CITY COUNCIL MEMBER AND ASK HIM OR HER TO VOTE "YES" ON INTRO 627-A. You can find out who your City Council Member is by checking the NYCFerrets.com web site: http://www.NYCFerrets.Com or calling (212) 788-7100

Read the letter Mary wrote to each City Council Member.
Read the article on albino ferrets and domestication written by Bob Church which we sent to each City Council Member (from the upcoming Modern Ferret Issue #30 featuring albinos).
Read the rabies information we sent to each City Council Member. (Although the DoH and Mayor Giuliani think otherwise, ferrets are not a significant rabies risk.)
